A dive into the largest nature reserve in the Netherlands: the North Sea.
About the film
Diver and underwater cameraman Peter van Rodijnen follows in the footsteps of Jacques Cousteau into the North Sea. Battling strong currents, murky water and storms, he searches for footage nobody has captured before. The film shows the sea as one connected system, from plankton to basking sharks, and the role people play in it, as fishers and as conservationists.
Mark Verkerk directed the film, which took six years to make. De Wilde Noordzee (“The Wild North Sea”) opened in Dutch cinemas in September 2024, won the Documentary Audience Award at the Netherlands Film Festival in 2025 and was also broadcast as a series by the EO. I worked on it as 1st AC and in the above-water wildlife unit.
