The lines in our landscape reflect the way we think.
About the film
Our landscape is full of borders. Unyielding ones from deep time, such as glacial ridges and rivers, and borders made by people in the form of dams and dykes. Fences, ditches, roads and hedges draw a fine mesh of lines between farming, nature, housing and work. Sometimes they blend seamlessly, sometimes they are straight and hard.
In Grensgebied (“Borderland”), filmmaker Rik van der Linden travels through the Gelderse Poort and the Rijk van Nijmegen. Together with residents, farmers, ecologists and the more-than-human inhabitants of the landscape, he explores the beauty, value and meaning of soft borders. The film shows what landscape restoration has already achieved within existing frameworks, and how we might stretch the borders in our thinking.
The film premiered to a sold-out audience in Groesbeek on 26 August 2026 and is part of the official selection of Wildlife Film Festival Rotterdam 2026. It is in Dutch.
